Peter - As John mentioned, desktop drives are not intended for RAID arrays, especially not the 5,400RPM "Green" type. Every reputable storage vendor will recommend 2 copies of data in different locations and Drobo is no different. Kooler - RAID does not equal backup as I'm sure you know. There is a myth circulating that only Drobo can recover data, yet we have a relationship with Drive Savers to assist with this. We still use the same underlying mirroring and striping with parity schemes that are common to all RAID systems in existence. Our BeyondRAID is only unique in how it manages metadata. I will get you right to one of our L2/元 support techs to get you sorted out. Here is what I'd like to propose: Send me an email at jsherhart at drobo dot com along with case number and contact info. Just like any RAID array, things will start to slow down a bit, but that's about the extent of what will be experienced by filling a system up. Filling up a Drobo does no such thing as brick the system. Jason - Sorry to hear about your issues and I would love to know who you talked with on our Support team. Parity RAID 5 systems scaled up this high have long rebuilds, fail to perform, and have all kinds of weird cases where data just goes crazy. I've ended up recovering my photos from another backup. Unless anyone has any other suggestions I'd say don't fill up your drobos (it is absolutely ridiculous imo that you can fill a device up to the point of bricking it)Īnother BeyondRAID victim. So I pulled it out and put it back it and now it is rebuilding again (with 31 hrs remaining) The slot it is indicating is the first 4TB drive slot I just spent 36 hrs rebuilding. I put back in the second removed 3TB drive and it says unable to protect from drive failures you need such and such extra drives insert another drive into indicated slot. I hope to add the second drive and access my data but when I add the second 4TB the dashboard says too many drives have been remove please insert original drive. I insert the first one, wait about 36hrs for it to rebuild the array and still can't access my data. Support said the only thing I can do is buy two more 4TB drives (at about 375$ each) and install them (WTF!!!). Apparently filling a drobo up too much bricks it. I can ping the drobo but not access any of the files. I filled the device to 9.24TB of 10.86TB and the shares disappear. I have a drobo fs most recent dashboard and firmware, filled with 3tb drives that is the destination of my nightly backups.
